How Blu Eye Works

Patented safety technology that sees what you can’t

Every year in the UK, thousands of serious accidents occur because drivers react too late to approaching emergency vehicles. Modern cars are quieter, better insulated, and filled with distractions, making it easy to miss sirens or flashing lights until the very last second.

In 2009, our engineers developed a patented technology that solves this problem: Target Blu Eye. By translating the ultra-short periodic signals used on the UK’s Airwave network, Blu Eye makes the invisible visible giving you a clear early warning whenever an emergency vehicle is nearby.

Step-by-step: how Blu Eye works

Step 1.  Detecting emergency radio activity

Every few seconds, police cars, ambulances, fire engines, and other emergency services transmit secure digital signals over the Airwave TETRA network. Both marked and unmarked vehicles continuously broadcast this activity.

Step 2. Instant, clear alerts

The system continuously scans the network for these unique activity bursts. Thanks to our patented detection technology, it recognises them instantly – without decoding or listening to any message

  • Visual: LED indicators (mirror) or on-screen display (LCD/GO)
  • Audio: tones that increase with proximity (volume/mute available)

City Mode can reduce sensitivity in dense areas, so you’re warned mainly when services are truly close.

Step 3. Safer, calmer driving

When an emergency vehicle is within range – up to 1,000 metres around your car.  Blu Eye gives you a clear visual and audible alert. This gives you more time to anticipate, move aside, and let emergency responders do their job safely.

Why Blu Eye is unique

  1. Patented Dutch innovation; Developed by our engineers and protected since 2009.
  2. Comprehensive coverage; Works with all emergency services using Airwave, including marked and unmarked police vehicles.
  3. Legal & compliant; Blu Eye does not decode communications; it only recognises presence. That’s why it’s 100% legal in the UK.
  4. Proven in practice; Trusted by thousands of drivers who want extra awareness and peace of mind on the road.

  • Blu Eye is passive: it emits nothing and does not decode communications.
  • Designed for situational awareness; always follow the Highway Code.
  • No personal data from radio traffic is recorded or stored.

Performance tips

  • Mount with a clear view through the windscreen; avoid metallic/IR-coated areas.
  • For GO, consider an external antenna if your vehicle’s glass attenuates signals.
  • Use City Mode in dense urban areas for more relevant alerts.

Quick answers

Will it detect unmarked police cars?

Yes. Detection is based on radio activity, not vehicle markings, lights or sirens.

Does it work outside the UK?

Yes, in countries using TETRA. Performance varies with local coverage; check the map above.

What’s the difference between GO and Blu Eye 2?

GO is portable, plug-and-play for any car. Blu Eye 2 is dealer-installed with external antenna for the longest possible range and a factory-fit look.
