Exclusive Interview with Jan Rijks - Inventor of Target Blu Eye

Since its first release in 2013, Target Blu Eye has been helping drivers across Europe detect nearby emergency vehicles (marked and unmarked), giving them more time to react safely. Recently, we sat down with Jan Rijks, the owner and inventor of Target Blu Eye, to talk about the brand-new Blu Eye GO, a portable version designed for today’s drivers.

And there’s good news for UK customers: the pre-order period has been extended until 31 October. This means there’s still time to secure your unit at a special launch price.

Why Blu Eye GO?

Jan explains that many drivers don’t want a permanently installed unit or often switch between cars. Others prefer a simpler solution without installation costs. That’s where Blu Eye GO comes in:

  • Plug & play – simply attach it to your windscreen with the suction mount and plug it into your USB socket.

  • Portable – move it between different vehicles in seconds.

  • Affordable – no installation required, no extra fitting costs.

How Does It Work?

Just like the Blu Eye 2, the GO detects signals from emergency service radios (Airwave TETRA network). These signals are transmitted every few seconds and the Blu Eye GO is able to pick them up instantly, warning you with both a sound and visual alert.

This means you’ll be warned about:

  • Ambulances

  • Fire engines

  • Police cars — including unmarked units

Jan highlights a key benefit: “At night, you can never be 100% sure if the headlights behind you are a regular driver or an unmarked police car. Blu Eye GO removes that uncertainty.”

Range and Options

The detection range of Blu Eye GO is 700 metres, compared to 1,000 metres for the Blu Eye 2. This difference is mainly due to the smaller built-in antenna and the fact the unit sits inside the car (a Faraday cage effect).

However, drivers can increase detection range by adding an optional clip-on external antenna for even stronger performance.

Is Airwave Being Replaced?

Some UK drivers have asked whether the Airwave system is being phased out. According to Jan, this has been a topic of discussion since 2015, but the UK Home Office has confirmed TETRA Airwave will remain in use until at least 2035. This means Blu Eye technology will stay relevant for many years to come.

Who Can Use It?

Blu Eye GO is designed for cars and vans. At this moment, it is not suitable for motorcycles, mainly due to the need for cooling fans and the risk of water damage. However, Jan assures us that a motorcycle-friendly version is on the roadmap for the future.

Pre-Order Extended Until 31 October

Originally, the pre-order offer was due to end earlier, but due to high demand the pre-order window has been extended until 31 October on the UK website www.blu-eye.co.uk. Via this website only UK customers can still secure their Blu Eye GO at the special launch price before it rises to the full retail price.

Final Thoughts

With easy installation, strong detection range, and full compatibility with the UK’s Airwave system until at least 2035, the Blu Eye GO is the perfect solution for drivers who value safety, awareness, and flexibility.

Don’t miss your chance to pre-order before 31 October.
